Overview

A U.S.-based OEM and engineering firm responsible for aluminum melting and casting systems was contracted to deliver a complete greenfield aluminum foundry in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Engineering and fabrication activities were completed in the United States, while mechanical installation, electrical integration, controls commissioning, and plant startup were executed on site in Mexico.

Boltronic was engaged as a technical field partner to support installation and commissioning activities. Initially providing hands-on technical support, the company quickly gained the trust of the OEM and the end customer, leading to expanded responsibilities across mechanical, electromechanical, and controls disciplines.

At peak project activity, eight Boltronic engineers and technicians were deployed on site, contributing to installation, commissioning, and cross-disciplinary coordination required to support the plant’s startup.

Key Success Factors

The Challenge

Complex Greenfield Industrial Installation

The project required installation of high-tonnage aluminum melting furnaces, auxiliary thermal systems, and environmental control infrastructure within a newly constructed facility.

Multi-System Commissioning Requirements

Dust-collection systems, PLCs, HMIs, safety circuits, and plant-wide control logic needed to be integrated and validated to ensure safe and stable operation.

Multi-Contractor Coordination

Several contractors and engineering teams operated simultaneously, requiring tight sequencing across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.

Need for On-Site Leadership

As installation progressed, additional field coordination and leadership were required to maintain schedule alignment and ensure smooth commissioning and startup activities.

Boltronic’s Solution

Boltronic deployed a multidisciplinary team of mechanical technicians, electromechanical specialists, and senior controls programmers to support installation, commissioning, and startup activities.

Key contributions included:
